Fossen to Lysekil (10)

The stage the day before was really tough and we felt every bone in our body when we woke up. But at least we had a warm cabin and we were really happy about that. A lot of camper buses were on the camping ground but the lady at the reception told us that for the cabin nobody was coming on that day, so we could do a late check out. Therefore, we slept long and had a late breakfast. We took our time in the morning till we got our stuff and the bicycles ready. Also, we discussed what our plan was for that day. We did not feel recovered enough to do a regular stage. So we just decided to cycle to our goal from the day before – Lysekil. There we booked an apartment for four nights to take it slowly and focus on the recovery.

Catching the big ferry to Finnsbo

The first kilometers of the stage we already knew, because we cycled them the day before in the opposite direction. It did not take long to get to the ferry which brought us from Skår to Finnsbo. The ferry took some minutes to cross Gullmarn. So during this ferry trip we had a nice view over the coastline. After the ferry it was time for some climbing. After that we came to a slow downhill part to Lysekil. The city is located directly at the sea and we had a beautiful view over it’s harbour, big church and nice houses.

Kusthotel in Lysekil – room upgrade

When we arrived at our accomodation we were almost the only guests. After getting our bags in the room and a quick shower we enjoyed the free coffee and tea alone in the lounge area. We were happy that we got a room upgrade without any additional cost. So we had a double bed instead of a bank bed. After a delicious pizza by the nearby pizzeria Milano we had a nap. In the evening we went to the supermarket to get everything for our stay. So we really took it slowly and did not overexert us.

Exploring Lysekil – the nature reserve Stångehuvud and the aquarium Havets Hus

The first day in Lysekil we slept a lot and just relaxed. The second day we checked out the nearby nature reserve Stångehuvud. We got to see stunning views over the sea and a rocky coastline. The weather was really sunny but also again with icy wind. However, we enjoyed the little stone hiking.

After three nights we decided to prolong our stay for two more nights. On the one hand to have more time for a complete recovery and on the other hand to just wait for warmer temperatures. With this extra time we could enjoy an evening in an irish pub in the town playing cards and taste a local beer. Furthermore we visited the nice Havets Hus, an aquarium next to our hotel with a lot of ocean animals. This spot was really lovely, with explanations and colourful designed fish tanks.
