In Poznań we celebrated Alinas birthday. Therefore, we first did a little sightseeing tour and took a walk into the city. We came across some churches and passed the main station. After this we walked to the center and old town. A lot of people were around and there was also a little festival at one main square. In the evening we ate some vegan burgers and afterwards we had a few beers at a nice rock bar. The second day we just relaxed and did some preparations for the next stage.
Gostyń as intermediate stop on the EuroVelo 9
The next milestone for our tour was Wrocław. But from Poznań it is more than 200 km so we had to cycle it within two stages. We searched for a stop in between and booked a little hotel in Gostyń, Also we did some research for available roads and Alina found out that we could follow the european bicycle path EuroVelo 9 (EV9, R9). Because we have been in a hotel in Poznań we could take our time in the morning. After we packed everything we had an easy start. On our way out of Poznań we could always take bicycle roads. Although it was quite busy on the streets next to us for the first kilometers, it was not as stressfull as the way into the city.
The further we went from the city the more forest was present. It was a really hot day and pretty humid so we were happy to be protected by the trees. From time to time we also passed bigger and smaller villages. After around two hours we took the chance for a first break at a little rest place. After some more kilometers we left the forest and entered an area where a lot of farmland was located and we had only little protection from the sun.
Challenging weather conditions
The landscape did not change much for a lot of kilometers. It was mostly flat land and you could see for miles. We cycled on minor roads which were in very good condition and there was not much traffic going on. But during the day the heat got more and more, and we had to fight the humid conditions. Often you were just cycling like in trance without thinking and watching the nature. It was not super exhausting but we needed some rest from time to time.
On our last kilometers our path led us to an unpaved road. Some people obviously used the remote area to dump some trash (even a toilet was there…). It is a sad phenomenon you see in every country, that there are people that don´t care for the environment. When we continued we also had to cycle a sandy road, which was quite challenging with all our luggage. Back on the asphalted minor streets it did not take long until we etered our goal Gostyń. After the check-in we had a nice dinner at a local restaurant. Afterwards we went to the hotel and relaxed because a long stage was waiting for us the next day.
