Borstahusen to Höganäs (2)

The campsite in Borstahusen was really a nice place, well equipped, clean, and very comfortable. And as our first stage was very intense we decided to stay three nights instead of only one as planned before. The first night in our tent was really stormy. The tent shaked in the wind from side to side and it was so loud that we woke up several times. Also the big crowd of ravens having their nests in the trees above the tent made a huge noise in the morning. Hard to get used to camping again 😉. So we slept long in the morning and just started the day, when the sun was already shining.

After breakfast (in the nice and warm community room 🙏) we took a walk along the beach and the town of Borstahusen. Due to the sunny weather we had a nice view on the island Ven and you could also look across Denmark. On the second day the weather was even nicer because there was almost no wind. It felt a bit like early summer. We had noticed that the campsite community kitchen also had some furnaces and microwaves. So we made a quick dinner without any big cooking effort. Afterwards we had a nice walk to the other side of the beach. Without any wind we could enjoy the evening sunshine.

End of Sydkustleden

The weather forecast for this stage was really bad. Rain should start very early so we decided to wake up one hour before it should start to rain (5:30!) to pack our things. After we fixed all bags to the bikes we had breakfast at the community room (felt like we were already living in there…). At the start it was very cloudy and also a bit cold (icy wind again❄️), but we had to climb a little hill to Glumslov whereby our bodys got the right temperature to defy the cold. The road guided us along the coast to Helsingborg. Once in a while we already saw some snowflakes.

One great thing about cycle paths here or maybe also about Sweden in general (?) are public toilets. These are often really clean, present along the cycle path, and heated 🔥. Perfect for this weather!

Helsinborg – Start of the Kattegattleden

When we entered the industrial area at the south of Helsingborg the weather got really bad. It started to snow more and also the temperature dropped around 0° Celsius. We knew it would be so cold, but it hits harder when you suddenly really feel it. We followed the Sydkustleden through Helsingborg until it’s end near the central station. There the oldest far distance bicycle path of Sweden starts – the Kattegattleden. The route goes along the west coast and ends in Göteborg.

Before we followed the new route further we decided to have a stop at a cafe to heat us up. Not so easy to find an open cafe on a Sunday morning in this city. Especially completely wet and frozen. Finally, we got a place in the cozy Café Borg Tågaborg. During a hot cup of coffee and some snacks we discussed our options. We came to the conclusion that it might be the best for today to book an apartment due to the cold and the bad weather conditions.

Find a place for the night in Höganäs

When the snow stopped for a while, we continued our ride for another 20 kilometers. We passed the beautiful village Domsten, which had some old fashioned houses and finished our tour in Höganäs. We had requested a room via Airbnb already at the cafe in Helsingborg. But after the host did not answer we cancelled that booking and went for another one. However, as we booked so spontaneously, the host was not there. Thus, we waited in the cold and could fix the flat tire from Alinas bike. Luckily it started lossing air only 1 km before Höganäs.

To bridge the time to the check-in we left our stuff in the garage of the accomodation and went to the nearby harbour. There we had some really delicious fish at the Höganäs Hamkrog. However, after that we were only glad to check-in to the well equipped Villa Lindell. Again an great example of the “hygge” style, that Sweden is so well known for. We were happy for a warm shower and a warm bed.
